Good morning everyone!
Clyde May has graciously given us permission to conduct a LEAS bird walk
this coming Saturday at Tahoka Lake.
Please arrive by 8:15 am so we can begin the bird walk by 8:30 am. Please
don’t arrive before 8:00 am so as not to disturb Clyde. You are all welcome
to leave the bird walk when you need to.
The weather that morning will be in the low 70s and will reach a high of
96 with winds about 13 MPH. Be sure to bring a hat, sunscreen, good hiking
shoes (there are snakes out there), water and snacks.
The drive down is pretty straight forward as we stay on 87 most of the way
down. It will only take about 30 minutes to get there. The actual turn-off
for the Lake is not as easy to see, so follow the directions below
carefully.
If you are familiar with Tahoka Lake and would consider leading a group on
Saturday (depending upon attendance), please reach out.

1. From Lubbock: Take IH 27 South; it turns into SH 87. Continue south
into Lynn County; you will pass "Poka Lambro" on the right, and once you
pass that, look for signs for FM 211 (to WIlson).
2. You will need to get in the left lane, and take FM 211 east towards
Wilson. This left turn is directly east of a Zimmatic-pivot-sprinkler
place.
3. Stay on FM 211 through Wilson, until you hit a flashing red light at FM
400.
4. Take a right on FM 400; pass the LoneStar Coop Gin.
5. Continue south FM for ~3.1 miles. Be alert for a large black mailbox
marked 883 FM 400 (ON YOUR LEFT) ---> *BEFORE* the mailbox you will turn
left, and cross over an old railroad track. There will be a sign that says
"Tahoka Lake Pasture".
6. Continue on the pavement; cross the first cattle guard. Continue on the
gravel road. Cross the second cattle guard. Continue on the gravel road
until you see a fork in the road.
7. Take the left fork (toward the actual lake of Tahoka Lake); continue
down the hill.
8. The green-metal building will be the rendezvous place.
