Greetings All:
Jim Crites located a rather late Ovenbird below Lake Six earlier
today. Sheri Anderson and I were able to relocate it this evening.
We first located it in salt cedars just downstream from the ridge that
splits the oxbow (currently flooded), and followed it towards where
Jim originally located it (on the upstream side of the oxbow).
Interestingly, it chose to go through the mesquite and cactuses to
traverse the ridge rather than following the curve of the oxbow. We
also had three widely separated Olive-sided Flycatchers and an
overflight of six White-faced Ibises. Other than that it was, as Jim
put it best, "the usual suspects".
This is the second latest date for a spring Ovenbird in our region -
Grant Beauprez had one on 6/13/2020 in Texline for the latest spring
date for the region.
