[leasbirds] Lesser Prairie Chicken on the Llano Estacado

I’ve had the privilege of locating and observing these birds on the Llano
Estacado the last few years. This species over the last two years has seen
a sharp decrease in number of birds at lek sites in Texas and overall
decrease since 2017. In 2016 one lek had 18 chickens. This year, 2019, the
same lek is at 4 chickens. The short term decrease over the last two years
correlates with almost nonexistent winter/early spring rainfall in the
region.
I’m afraid this will be the last year for this lek. Hopefully, this spring
it will rain, insect will flourish and the chickens will rebound.
