This is indeed a LESSER Black-backed Gull.
By 3rd winter they have yellow legs, so this is an adult with some typical
streaking/smudge concentrated around the eye.
Holly sent me additional photos and it clearly has VERY yellow legs, which
GBBG would have pale pinkish legs, as would Herring.
Greater-black backed gull are absolutely massive and make every other gull
look like a child. It’s impressive to seem
Even though this is a Lesser Black-backed Gull, it is still an awesome
bird!!! Great find Holly!
Good birding,

Here is our picture we got of the larger gull when we saw Holly at Leroy
Elmore 12/26/22 before 4 this afternoon. Looking at the beak and reading
id's we think it is a great black backed gull.

I spotted this gull with what seemed like a bright orange bill in the
water at Elmore Park. It might be a lesser-black-backed gull. Not sure. It
was on the west side, pretty near the shore by the parking lot.
