Hi All,
Went to McAlister this evening and had a nice variety of shorebirds by the
library again. If you have been wanting to see them, it would be better to go
sooner than later because the inlet is quickly drying up. Highlights included 2
flyover Franklin’s Gulls, what I am pretty sure was a 1st winter transitioning
to 1st summer Ring-billed Gull (gulls are not my forte), 3 new Stilt Sandpipers
(these were all in full breeding plumage), 3 Baird’s Sandpipers, and 11 each of
Semipalmated and Least Sandpipers. One of the dowitchers looked suspiciously
like a Short-billed, but I didn’t notice it until sunset. Pics of the probable
immature Ring-billed Gull are in my checklist if anyone would like to weigh in.

3 Stilt Sandpiper -- New birds. All 3 in full breeding plumage.

3 Long-billed Dowitcher
1 Short-billed/Long-billed Dowitcher -- Slender, sparse spotting at the base of
the neck and sparse barring on the flanks, back feathers were not edged in
white like the other 3. Didn’t get a good look at the bill. Overall it was more
orange than the other 3. Not sure if that was because of stage of molt, being
more sparsely marked, or both.

1 Ring-billed Gull -- Transitioning 1st winter to 1st summer. Had a fish and
was being harassed by the Avocets. In flight it had a thin, black terminal tail
band and the last 1/3 of the wings (tips) were black.
