Hahaha! I don't feel as comfortable as Bill ruling out Black Skimmer so
quickly!
Late to the party, but I also think its an Orange-crowned Warbler. We can
rule out a vireo because the legs are not blue. Even though we can't see
the bill, the overall proportions and tail shape don't feel right for a
tanager to me. The white between the legs with yellow around it is typical
of a Nashville Warbler, but the undertail pattern does not match (unless
the lighting in the picture is making it appear darker than it really is)
and Orange-crowned Warblers can have white in this area, too. I have looked
at the undertail pattern of several warblers with yellow undersides and the
picture seems to match closest to an Orange-crowned Warbler. The appearance
of slight yellow eye arcs and what looks like a dark line in front of the
eye also match an Orange-crowned. They are showing up now, assuming the pic
was taken in LBB and close to the day Drew sent it out. My two cents.
In order to compare similar undertail patterns of these crazy warblers, I
love The Warbler Guide by Stephenson and Whittle as a reference. It's too
big to carry in the field, but with good notes or a pic like this, I find
it invaluable in distinguishing close warbler species that you don't get a
great look at. They have some free downloadable resources, too.
