Thanks. It sure looked like a bird and not a fish in the osprey's claws. And
I have seen plenty of fish in osprey claws. The website you sent focuses on
Western Montana, I go flyfishing there and in Yellowstone almost every summer,
and many is the time I have been outfished by an osprey! I see a lot of nests
there, too, along the Missouri River.
I sort of wonder, given that ospreys are native to Europe as well, if someone
over the centuries ever tried to train one to fish—as in falconry.
(I'm waiting for the weblink of someone's trained osprey. I know they trained
cormorants in Japan.)

and didn't hang limp as a fresh-caught fish would. I watched it again, a good
view in 10X binoculars, after it landed on another pole. It looked like a bird
