Greetings All: I observed a very nice, male Phainopepla, flycatching from an oak tree at the corner of 78th Street and Flint Avenue, from 6:32 to 6:43 this evening. It had, to judge by the happy looks on the faces of Steve Collins, Peter Keyel, and Rob Lee as I drove be on the way out of the neighborhood, returned to the site at about 7:10. According to Steve, it was still there when he left the neighborhood around 7:45. I actually hit the area at 5:10 and walked every street and alley in an area bordered by Elgin Avenue to the east, Gary Avenue to the west, 77th Street to the north, and 80th Street to the south. Other highlights included a pair of Inca Doves (and I do mean a pair, if you get my drift) in an alley scanned from Gary Avenue between 77th and 78th Street, 1 Brown Creeper (did it winter here or are they wandering northward?) in a huge live oak in the alley between 78th and 79th street running east from Flint Avenue, and 3 Orange-crowned Warblers (singles at widely scattered locations - all in live oaks or mistletoe balls). Oh, and 2 Cackling Geese, initially spotted flying over the schoolyard by Peter Keyel. A big shout out to Rob Lee for finding this bird yesterday evening and to everybody who participated in getting the sighting out to folk. Anthony 'Fat Tony' Hewetson; Lubbock
