First Baby fledged today! I found it on the ground in our backyard with many
adults swooping around. When I approached it flew a short distance to the top of
our drive way fence, then was on the ground again. It then flew east across our
yard and over my shop and landed in the hybrid Gamble/chiquapin oak tree. Not
seen since.
The last time I lowered the nests to clean out sparrow nests, there were 7
clutches of 5 eggs each. Now there appears to be only two babies per nest. BTW,
after the last clean out, I taped the opening of the gourds that had sparrow
nests in them, and put "doors" on the traditional house so I would not have to
lower the houses anymore.
