I went over to Silver Falls yesterday and FM-2591. Lots of water at both of
these locations. Standing water along the highway between Lubbock all the way
to Silver Falls.I’ll do a bird report a bit later. Increased numbers of
butterflies and dragonflies as well as grasshoppers and other insects. Hope to
go to Lorenzo area today.

I don't know if it is related to the current weather event but I did
have a Western Wood Pewee in my yard this morning (the second one I
have ever seen in my yard) and there might be a few oddball late
migrants that get stalled by this patch of weather and pop up in odd
spots.
I also, after two days with no Pine Siskins, had one pop up on a
thistle sock yesterday. Despite its much smaller size, it easily
displaced the House Finches that had figured out how to use the sock.
If anybody does get out and bird over the next few days, a few words
about the level of flooding at our favorite sites might be
appreciated. Southbound shorebird migration starts in July and the
rainfall we are seeing now can put enough rain in local playas to have
an impact on that migration ... making it useful to know where water
is piling up.
