During the short walk from the F1 parking lot to my office on the
north side of B pod I noted the following lingering
winterers/migrants: 1 Common Poorwill, 2 Hermit Thrushes, a handful of
Chipping and Clay-colored Sparrows, at least 8 White-crowned Sparrows,
1 White-throated Sparrow, 2 Spotted Towhees, 2 American Redstarts (1
first spring male; 1 adult male), 1 female Northern Parula, 2
Yellow-rumped Warblers, 2 Wilson's Warblers, and 1 male Rose-breasted
Grosbeak.
Please note; this was all before the sun started hitting the trees in
the quad by the library. Moths are all over the place and the
pressure washing of the sidewalks (thank you, Great-tailed Grackles)
creates puddles that draw birds to the ground.
I presume that this bodes well for other migrant hotspots in town.
