Greetings Gerald Skoog (and all):
Whatever is going on with water this year, it is happening at the
right time to make keeping yards up to code (and getting in some
critter-friendly gardening) quite challenging. It took me three
afternoons to get the front yard and alley in good shape (the business
part of the mullet hairdo that is my yard); tomorrow I start on the
critter-friendly backyard (the party part of the mullet hairdo that is
my yard).
For those of you not in on the joke, the Mullet Hairdo was considered,
as per Joe Dirt, business in the front and party in the back.
I currently have lilac, red salvia, blue salvia, and native
honeysuckle in bloom ... and pincushion flower is so, so close. With
regards to wildflowers (what my neighbors call weeds) I am working
with dandelion, hen's bit, wild geranium, a low to the ground yellow
flower I have not had in the yard before (will have to take a picture
and send it to Ellen Hildebrandt), and at least two species of
mustard.
The butterflies will explode soon - I can just feel it:)

visiting Liz’s family in thevDallas area we would often see the vultures as
we travelled on roads in the area. No special birds sited here. We get
some very shallow and temporary ponds where Mallards come to in the
evening.....I, too, have been raking leaves and cutting dead vegetation in
Liz’s garden. I wish she would stick to weaving baskets.

Subject: [leasbirds] Turkey Vultures
Clarice and I were working at cleaning up the backyard, unbelievable amounts
of leaves.
Suddenly overhead was a big flock of Turkey Vulture, circling, and kettling.
The larger flock has 21 birds, just to the east was another flock with 7 or
8 birds.
I have decided to forgo the sun bathing for today.
