This evening at Dupree Park, in the same knothole of the same tree on the east
side of the park, I heard, saw, and photographed the male red-bellied
woodpecker. I also saw and photographed a male ladder-backed woodpecker, which
flew into the tree just south of the first one. I never did see the
golden-fronted female. I haven’t heard anything from inside the knothole that
makes me think there are nestlings yet. I plan to keep an eye (and my ears) on
this tree fairly frequently for the near future.
