[Linuxtrent] Configura XFree86 e poi muori...

Ho un vecchio PC con un monitor Sony multiscan 17 sf con una scheda
video S3 Trio64V2-DX/Gx(775/785) con 2 mb di memoria. Ho installato
(finalmente....) la slackware 8.1 e con xf86config ho configurato (...ho
tentato di configurare) XFree86 ver 4.2.0. Da shell ho dato il comando
startx ed il risultato è stato il seguente:

Premesso che i dati del monitor (31-64 e 50-120) sono giusti, che
capperi è successo?
Lo stesso PC quando usavo la suse 7.3 andava che era una meraviglia ed
inoltre tutta la configurazione era automatica...ah la precisione
teutonica :-)
La mia domanda è WHY tanta sofferenza :-) ?
