[Linuxtrent] Media type di vecchie schede di rete

Salve ho una vecchia scheda 3COM che all'avvio dice:
eth0: 3c5x9 at 0x220, BNC port, address 00 60 97 34 5a c5, IRQ 5.
Ho necessità di passare dal bnc all'RJ45.
Quando provo con:
# ifconfig eth1 inet media 10baseT
Ottengo come risposta.
SIOCSIFMAP: Operation not supported
Come posso fare per cambiare modo di funzionare a questa scheda?
