[Linuxtrent] Ubuntu 8.10 non vede HD esterno

Ciao a tutti
Ho appena agiornato la mia Ubuntu alla versione 8.10.
tutto funziona perfettamente, ma quando accendo l'HD esterno le CPU
lavorano al 50%, l'HD gira ma non appare nella lista delle periferiche.
Con HD attivo questo è quello che il sistema restituisce:

Ho trovato molti problemi analoghi in rete, ma nessuna soluzione.
Sul DELL portatile (UBUTU-DELL 8.04) e su winXP tutto funziona
regolarmente.
Altro piccolo particolare, se il sistema viene avviato con l'HD attivo,
il tutto si ferma ad 1/4 della procedura (come succede in WinXP...
brutta cosa, vero?)
