[Linuxtrent] alimentazione hard disk esterno da porta USB

Ciao a tutti!
Ho trovato un disco esterno che puo' essere alimentato direttamente
dalla porta USB:

C'e' una nota in fondo dove dicono che non garantiscono che tutte
porte USB siano in grado di alimentarlo e che bisogna comprare dischi
2.5 IDE che consumino <=500mA (*).
Come faccio a capire quanto puo' erogare massimo la porta USB del mio portatile?
Qualcuno conosce questo prodotto o simili e puo' darmi un
feed-back/vantaggi/svantaggi?
