I am pleased to inform that IISc and Dakshin will be hosting a
two-week summer programme in Marine Biology and Ecology to be held
from the 4th to 18th of March 2018.
The Course applications are now due on* Feb 12th 2018*, and the candidates
will be announced by *Feb 15th.*
Supported by the Department of Biotechnology, the course aims to
introduce Indian graduate and post-graduate students who are
interested in pursuing a career in marine
biology/ecology/conservation. It is also an opportunity for recently
registered Ph.D students from the various sub-disciplines of life
sciences to explore opportunities to work on marine models/systems.
The course will be held at the Andaman Nicobar Environment Team (ANET)
field station, a collaborative research and education centre of the
Madras Crocodile Bank Trust (MCBT) and Dakshin Foundation located in
South Island (visit www.anetindia.org). The ANET base allows easy
access to a variety of and marine ecosystems, including extensive
mangrove creeks seagrass beds, coral reefs, and sandy and rocky
beaches. Lectures, discussions and sessions will focus on
familiarizing students with the basics of marine vertebrates and
invertebrate biology, larval ecology, community ecology, marine
ecosystems, oceanography, marine biotechnology and conservation.
Food and accommodation will be covered and participants will be
required to make their own travel arrangement to the islands. Limited
travel fellowships are available based on financial need and academic
merit, and applicants should justify their need for a travel
fellowship in their statement of purpose. I have attached a brief
