The Agriculture and Ecological Research Unit, Indian Statistical Institute,
Kolkata is going to organize an international conference the '*5th India
Biodiversity Meet (IBM-2018)*'* at ISI, Kolkata, during 15-17 March 2018*.
It’s our immense pleasure to invite you to participate in the IBM - 2018.
The focus for this year conference is Biodiversity, Food security and
Climate change. India is one of the world's 12 mega-biodiversity centres,
and the subcontinent is one of the six centres of origin of species.
Although India is designated as a mega-biodiversity area, it also has two
of the world's most threatened ‘hot spots', the Eastern Himalayan region
and the Western Ghats. Loss and fragmentation of natural habitats,
overexploitation of plant and animal species, the impact of invasive alien
species, and climate change are causing the loss of biodiversity. From the
common man to the big corporates, the future of our growth depends on
conserving the variety and richness of biodiversity.
This year, IBM is all set to bring to the discussion table the pertinent
threats to Indian biodiversity, food security and climate change. Like
previous years, IBM-2018 is also expected to provide an excellent platform
for experts and practitioners to join and share outcomes of their research
leading to constructive research and conservation principles applicable to
the Indian and International scenario. We hope that you will reserve the
dates in your diary, and join us in this event in the City of joy.
