(CLP) is currently accepting applications for 2020 Conservation Awards

and we need WCS support getting the word out. Since WCS is a CLP partner,
our own employees are not eligible to apply. However, there are a number of
important ways WCS staff can support the program (see “How WCS can help”).
CLP awards are offered to teams of early-career conservationists to conduct
projects on species that are categorized as Data Deficient, Vulnerable,
Endangered or Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List. Team members
should have less than 5 years’ professional experience in the conservation
sector and projects must occur in an eligible country (see “Where we
work”). Projects must be led (or co-led) by a national of an eligible
project country and involve a minimum of three people. There are three
tiers of CLP support, with the Future Conservationist Award earmarked
exclusively for new applicants to the process:

Up to $15,000 per project
- Conservation Follow-up Awards

Up to $25,000 per project* (available only to previous CLP Future
Conservationist Award winners)
- Conservation Leadership Awards

Up to $50,000 per project* (available only to previous CLP Follow-up Award
winners)
Successful applicants will: 1) develop the knowledge, skills and abilities
of team members; 2) implement a focused, high-priority conservation project
combining research and action; and 3) contribute to the long-term success
of local conservation efforts.

*Where we work*: In this round we are accepting applications for projects
across Africa, Asia, Eastern and South-eastern Europe, the Middle East, the
Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean. Countries that are not eligible
include those designated as high-income economies by the World Bank, with
the exception of some countries and island nations in Latin America &
Caribbean and the Pacific. See guidelines for full country criteria.
*The application deadline is 24 November 2019 for ALL applications*. Awards

*Those applying for a Conservation Follow-up and Conservation Leadership
Award must submit a Logical Framework and the Final Report of their
previous CLP project to CLP by 18 October 2019. If the Logical Framework
and Final Report are satisfactory, the team will be invited to submit a
full proposal by the 24 November deadline. Teams will be notified of this
invitation by 25 October 2019.
*How WCS can help*: By encouraging and supporting teams to apply, WCS has
the potential to direct teams to work on WCS priority species or regions
and to increase local conservation capacity in the places we work. Here’s

- Share the Call for Applications

with local partners, universities, and individuals who may be interested to
apply or share with their networks. The call is attached as a PDF as well.
- Mentor a team that is preparing an application which overlaps with WCS
priority areas.
- Become a CLP reviewer. After the application deadline, CLP contacts
volunteer reviewers internal and external to the CLP partnership with
requests to review applications within a reviewer’s area of expertise. If
you are learning about CLP for the first time or would like to start
engaging, send us an email (clp@xxxxxxxxxxxx). We will follow up with
instructions on how to register as a reviewer.
*Applicant support*: Through our Alumni Ambassador program, applicants can
request feedback on their proposals from CLP alumni prior to submission.

weeks before the deadline for advice on project eligibility, methods and
project activities.
*Who we are*: The Conservation Leadership Programme (CLP) aims to advance
biodiversity conservation globally by building the leadership capabilities
of early career conservation professionals working in places with limited
capacity to address high-priority conservation issues. This partnership
initiative, including Wildlife Conservation Society, BirdLife
International, and Fauna & Flora International, has been helping young
conservationists across the world advance in this sector for over 30 years.
CLP currently works toward its aims by offering awards, training and
mentoring support.
