For Conservation
To: <meet.yeti@xxxxxxxxx>

Greetings.
Possible to share this in the Yeti group please?
Thank you!

Warmly,
Marisha

What: An online talk about technology tools in conservation practices
When: Friday, 3rd June 2022; 4.30pm onwards
Where: Zoom - https://bit.ly/3tAug9x

When technology meets conservation…

technology

the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, especially
in industry.

(also) machinery and equipment developed from the application of scientific
knowledge.

conservation

the careful maintenance and upkeep of a natural resource to prevent it from
disappearing. A natural resource is the physical supply of something that
exists in nature, such as soil, water, air, plants, animals.

The Rainmatter Foundation <http://rainmatter.org/> is delighted to host the
teams from Technology for Wildlife Foundation
<https://www.techforwildlife.com/> and Blue Sky Analytics
<https://blueskyhq.io/> along with Parisar <https://parisar.org/> to talk
about how technology can enable conservation practise, the tools that they
use in their efforts and the many lessons they’ve learnt in the process.

Technology for Wildlife Foundation will demystify ‘conservation technology’
focusing on the importance of robotic systems and spatial technology for
wildlife and environmental conservation. They will illustrate this through
examples from their own projects, where they have used UAVs to study
wildlife, explore remote habitats and study carbon sequestration in
mangrove forests. Significantly, they will talk about their approach to
deciding the appropriateness of a project for a technology intervention.

Blue Sky Analytics will demonstrate how adding a layer of satellite data
for environmental monitoring can provide more localised information, which
can serve as a trigger for informed action. Their partner, *Parisar*, is
using air quality data to develop a ward-level information dashboard for
the city of Pune, for advocacy and awareness. Blue Sky will also talk about
using real-time data from other environmental indicators – extreme heat,
wildfires, floods, emissions, etc – for better monitoring and climate risk
assessment.
