Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun*
CAMPA-Dugong Recovery Program at Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun is
looking to hire a skilled Field Assistant for a period of 1 year to assist
in science-based conservation education, outreach and awareness program in
Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
*About the Position*: ‘Recovery of Dugongs and their habitats in India: An
integrated Participatory approach’ project aims to understand dugong
distribution, mitigate threats and prepare recovery plan for the species.
Dugong populations in India are threatened by accidental fishnet
entanglements, hunting for meat, sea grass habitat loss and marine
pollution among others. The position will be based in Andaman and Nicobar
Islands to implement conservation outreach programs for minimizing dugong
mortality and creating awareness at village level for mitigating these
threats. The work also requires conducting social surveys with fisher folks
to understand community's perception towards dugongs and sea grass habitats.
*Number of position: *1
*Responsibilities*: The assistant will conduct regular awareness campaigns,
help develop conservation outreach material and conduct community workshops
and social surveys for dugong conservation.
*Essential Qualifications*: Master’s degree in Sociology / Social Science /
Social Work / Anthropology will be given preference. Students with Master’s
in Life Sciences discipline with proven experience in conducting
sociological surveys or awareness programs may also apply. Experience in
conducting social surveys and awareness programs will be preferred.
Good interpersonal skills, spoken and written proficiency in Hindi and
English is compulsory.
*Stipend:* Assistant will be paid a stipend between Rs. 10,000 - 12,000
per month as per the government norms. Accommodation and travel within the
field site will be covered by the project (*To and fro travel from mainland
to port **Blair** should be covered by the candidate*)
