Yours, Giovanni Gain Time To Think at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin / Institute for Advanced Study COLLEGE FOR LIFE SCIENCES Leading or working in a life-sciences research laboratory is an absorbing job paced by tight schedules, teaching loads, and by an ever growing number of managerial tasks which subtract precious time from thinking. But if you have just launched or are about to launch your independent line of experimental research, time to think might be exactly what you need. So what if you had the chance to take stock of your on-going work and refresh your ideas in an intellectually stimulating setting, away from the constraints of the laboratory? The Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin (Institute for Advanced Study) hosts internationally recognised as well as promising junior scholars in all fields of knowledge, including the humanities, the social sciences and the arts, thus creating a culturally diverse environment. It includes an original programme called College for Life Sciences that offers early-career life scientists the unique opportunity to break from their laboratory routine and ponder their ideas away from the teaching and administrative duties of their home institutions. We invite applications from post-doctoral researchers, as well as junior principal investigators (at the level of lecturer or junior/assistant professor) from all fields in the life-sciences, who need time to gain a broader perspective on their fields, formulate daring questions and outline original directions in their future career. Fellowships must be spent between mid September and mid April. Our recommended period of residency is 6 months. Shorter residencies –of no less than 3 months– can be arranged. The fellowship includes the following benefits: • a stipend based on your prior salary • IT facilities, and excellent library services • a vibrant intellectual environment with regular talks, symposia, and art events • on campus accommodation (studios), relocation assistance • connections with other Berlin-based academic and cultural institutions • the opportunity to invite guests and collaborators for short stays To apply, please fill out the online application form.
