Interns are required for a field study on *‘Understanding the realities and
perceptions of otter-fishery interactions in the river fisheries of Goa,
India.’* The project is part of an MSc thesis for the National Centre for
Biological Sciences, Bangalore. The aim of the project is to relate actual
depredation of river fisheries by smooth-coated otters (*Lutrogale
perspicillata*) to fishworker community perceptions of these interactions.
The project will provide *hands-on experience with ecological field-work on
otters* and *exposure to working with fishery-dependent communities.*
*Responsibilities *will involve daily tasks of checking for otter presence,
signs of otter depredation, engagement with the fishing community and data
entry.
*Study duration:* December 2019 – April 2020
*Study location:* Goa, India
*Requirements:* Candidates must be adaptable and willing to work hard.
Preference will be given to candidates that live in Goa, speak Konkani and
those holding a valid two-wheeler license.
Housing, food and local transport will be covered.
