Dear All,
Want to be a part of exciting research in Palk bay? We have 5 positions for
paid internships at OMCAR Foundation, Tamil Nadu. The project will
primarily involve field visits, data collection, sampling, cataloguing the
biodiversity, data entry, data analysis, report writing, etc. The position
is available for 3 months. If you are a Master's student or will be
completing this year with a background in Marine Biology, Zoology or any
field biology, and interested to work in seagrass/mangrove environment, are
proficient in identification of mangrove flora and fauna, we encourage you

A work commitment would be for 3 months.
The intern is expected to complete work in a timely manner.
*Topics to study*
1. Structure, species diversity and economic benefits of Mangrove
ecosystem.
2. Mangroves as carbon sink
3. Sea turtle rescue and release (green turtle) in Central Palk Bay, a
community-based conservation approach and its impacts#
4. Experimental Culture of native seaweed and mussels in Palk Bay.
5. Fisheries and importance of seagrass for a small-scale fishery*
*Essential qualifications:*
M.Sc. preferably in Marine Biology/Zoology/Ecology/Environmental sciences/
Wildlife sciences or allied fields are especially encouraged to apply.
# Graduate or post-graduate in Sociology (or interested in Socio-economic
studies) will be encouraged to apply.
*Graduate or post-graduate in Fisheries will be encouraged to apply.
*The ideal candidate will have:*
1. Ready to work in mangrove environment
2. A keen interest in non-profit work
3. Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
4. # * Aptitude for interacting with people and conducting interviews based
on a questionnaire (Should be able to communicate in Tamil).
This is a paid internship opportunity, a basic monthly stipend will be
provided to the candidates. Basic shared accommodation and food will be
provided at the institute. The duration of this internship is 3 month which
requires total commitment. If you are passionate about making a difference
and have the skills and experience to contribute to the work of our
organization, we encourage you to apply. The position can be extended based
on the performance of the candidate and interest to continue with work. Basic
field expenses will be borne by the organisation.
