World Oceans Day is celebrated every year on 8th June. The United Nations
has declared the year 2021-2030 as the ‘Ocean Decade’.
*Ecofolks* along with Mumbai Zoo will be organizing SEAmposium on Sunday 12
th June 2022 to celebrate this day.
It will be a small attempt to re-connect the people of Mumbai to the ocean
in a new way, a new vision that the ‘Ocean is not a huge resource to
consume but the last resource to conserve’.
*SEAmposium* would be the annual arribada of ocean lovers congregating to
create bioluminescence of ideas. A rookery that will spawn imagination for
exploration and not exploitation.
*SEAmposium* will be an assortment of talks, walks, films, photography, and
debate involving stakeholders from Beach cleanups, Mangrove Conservation,
Turtle tourism, Shore Walkers, Surfers, Underwater filmmakers, and beach
resort owners, Ports, Fishing communities et al.
We also plan to hold an Ocean Film Festival SEAnema, which will provide a
great understanding for the audience of the behind the scenes action of
conservation videographers and the amazing world under the blue.
This event aims to give people a general understanding of why oceans are
vital for the survival of our planet and how can we take a step towards
conserving the world under the blue world.
