Dear all,
One of the concerns and even an occasional discussion in the past has
been about the fact that the PA Update is only available in English when
it would be rather useful in other languages as well. That a lot of our
conservation communication and outreach material is in English has been
a serious issue and there is a huge gap to be filled there. While a
number of initiatives in different languages have come up in the recent
past, it is clear that much more needs to be done. It is a huge
bottleneck in reaching out more widely and ensuring more positive
conservation outcomes.
An odd attempt or two notwithstanding, the PA Update is no
exception.
Many years ago, we did, in fact, make a brief effort in collaboration
with the Paratwada based NGO, Khoj, to work on a Marathi version. A
couple of issues were produced even, but we never managed to take it any
further. The challenges were related to both, human and financial
resources.
Now, many years later, we are hoping that a first big change will
happen as the idea of a Marathi version of the newsletter takes shape
once again.
We are hoping to come out very soon with a Marathi version of the PA
Update that will follow the format and style of the English original,
but with a primary focus of news from Maharashtra. We will be sourcing
news from the Marathi press to the extent is possible and this will be
supplemented with translations from what's available in English. We are
also hoping to reach out widely to the Marathi reading community across
the state and those outside who might be interested.
This mail is a specific appeal for your support, primarily financial,
for this effort. We welcome your donations and subscriptions and please
write to me at psekhsaria@xxxxxxxxx for further details. You can also
consider gift subscribing the newsletter to friends, colleagues and
others you think would find this useful and interesting. If there are
organisations who can bulk subscribe that will be doubly beneficial and
if we have the Maharashtra FD officials here who would like to get the
newsletter across to staff across the state, we'd be particular happy to
hear from you.
