Hi all,
For several years I've had a growing interest in private wildlife reserves
and sanctuaries in India, and have had the pleasure to visit several of
them. I've found these wild havens to be beautifully managed, flourishing
spaces of biodiversity that provide some cushioning to spillover
populations of wildlife from Protected Areas.
I'm now compiling a list of private nature reserves and wildlife
sanctuaries in the country on a google doc. This spreadsheet will serve as
a resource for anyone interested in this particular conservation strategy.
If you know of a private reserve/sanctuary that should be on the list, I
would be extremely grateful if you sent me the following details:
Name of Reserve:
State:
Area:
Website:
Contact Person:
Email id:
The criteria to be included on this list is that (a) the reserve/sanctuary
be over 25 acres in size, and (b) the first priority of land management be
wildlife conservation. I've intentionally kept the criteria simple in order
to create a comprehensive list that can further be categorized at a later
date if required.
