*Abstract:*
*2022 is now widely regarded as the start of the post-pandemic phase. But
it is also 50 years since the 1972 UN Stockholm Conference, where we first
collectively recognized environmental problems as a planetary illness.
Unfortunately, over the last 50 years, for every step forward on the
environmental front, there have been 2 or even 3 steps back. Drawing the
right connections between the pandemic and the environmental crisis
provides us an entry point into understanding this planetary illness. Our
understanding has to start with a multi-dimensional framing of what a
healthy planet is. We must then avoid the pitfalls of both ecological
essentialism and quick/fake science to arrive at an interdisciplinary
understanding of the deeper causes of the illness and build a collaborative
movement towards addressing it.*
