Dear all,

Sanctuary Nature Foundation would like to thank all those who have signed
the joint letter to the Railway Minister of India on the dire issue of rise
in elephant deaths by train collisions. I am attaching the letter with the
logos, names and designations to this mail. We will be sending the letter
to the Ministry on February 2, 2018. So, all those who still would like to
sign on, just share your logo, name, designation on this thread. More the
better and stronger!

Thanks,

Regards,
Purva

Dear all,

Our *elephants* are in trouble. With the rise in number of elephant
deaths due to unnatural causes in the country such as electrocution,
poisoning and Human-Elephant Conflicts , mortality due to* train
collisions* is one of the most troubling.

We at *Sanctuary Nature Foundation* have drafted a letter to the *Railway
Minister of India* urging him to take up the extremely serious matter of
*elephant
deaths* due to train hits across the country, and devise concrete steps
and regulations to mitigate avoidable accidents along railway lines, in
coordination with the *Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate
Change (MoEFCC). *

Railway tracks cut through major portions of elephant habitat and
migration routes across the country, but hardly any mitigation measures are
put in place to reduce elephant mortality due to train hits. Effective
measures which are simple and could be enforced with a little intervention
is all it will take the Railway Ministry to prevent such unnecessary deaths
among an already beleaguered species, which happens to be our *National
Heritage Animal*.

*We are calling for organisations and individuals such as yourself to
sign on. If you wish to sign the letter, do share your organisation's logo,
your name and designation by January 25, 2018.*

I have attached the letter draft to the mail. Your suggestions and inputs
are most welcome.

Warm regards,

Purva
