Call for a short-term position for 6 months at ATREE
Growing research in the last decade has high lighted the overlap
between religious sites
and areas of high biodiversity value,
including formally protected areas. However, balancing the two
interests—community visitation rights, and protection of the reserve’s
vulnerable biodiversity—has been a challenge for implementation. The
National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has mandated that every
tiger reserve needs to develop a plan to manage religious tourism.
ATREE has been working closely with Forest department and temple trust
in Kalakad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve to measure the impact on
biodiversity and also draw a mitigation plan for an annual festival
which sees a flow of not less than 2 lakh visitors. We have further
expanded our work to Male Mahadeshwara hills, Ranthambhore and Corbett
National Park all of which faces similar problems.
We are excited to invite applications from individuals with experience
in biodiversity surveys particularly mammals and birds to initiate
impact studies in southern Tamil Nadu. Candidate will be involved in
collection of primary data and also analysis of existing data.
Preference will be given to candidates with skills in data analysis
and writing. We plan to start to field work on 10 April 2017.
Submit (i) a CV (ii) a cover letter elaborating your interests and
background and a writing sample (e, a peer-reviewed journal article or
even an unpublished manuscript.
