*Dear Sir/Madam:*

*Sub*: Second Indian Biodiversity Congress (IBC) and Expo- 9 -12 December
2012, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore - reg.

Greetings from the Secretariat of Indian Biodiversity Congress!

*Indian Biodiversity Congress (IBC) *is the largest get together of
scientists, conservationists, environmentalists, civil society groups and
local communities concerned with biodiversity- the variety of life in our
planet and the support system for achieving food security, poverty
alleviation and sustainable development. *The major objective of IBC is to
formulate a vision and alternate strategic plan for the conservation of
biodiversity in the context of prevailing concept of “development at ANY
cost”. *The First IBC was launched in 2010, the United Nations International
Year of Biodiversity (IYB) under the joint auspices of Centre for
Innovation in Science and Social Action (CISSA), Navdanya (New Delhi),
University of Kerala and Kerala State Biodiversity Board. This has become a
landmark event in India, with the participation of over 750 delegates from
25 states in seminars, exhibition of international quality visited by over
100,000 public, workshops, national photography exhibition, civil society
meet, documentary film festival and Children’s Biodiversity Conclave,
besides a series of satellite and side events. The recommendations of first
IBC were well appreciated by various government and non-government agencies
and the media.

We are pleased to inform you that the *Second Indian Biodiversity Congress*
*and Expo *are scheduled at Bangalore, the Garden City of India during 9-12
December 2012. The programme will be held at JN Tata Auditorium, Indian
Institute of Science, Bangalore under the joint auspices of Centre for
Innovation in Science and Social Action (CISSA) (a global partner of United
Nations Decade on Biodiversity celebrations); Centre for Ecological
Sciences, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore; Foundation for
Revitalisation of Local Health Traditions (FRLHT), Bangalore and Navdanya,
Delhi. The focal theme of IBC is “Biodiversity Heritage of the Western
Ghats- Challenges and Strategies for Conservation and Sustainable
Management” and this will facilitate discussion on the pros and cons of
conservation, with an anthropocentric perspective.

The activities planned in connection with the Second Indian Biodiversity
Congress at Bangalore include National Seminar with participation of over
1,000 delegates and leading experts on the subject from India and abroad,
Indian Biodiversity Expo showcasing the rich biodiversity heritage and
culture of the country, Capacity Building Workshops, National Photography
Exhibition, Civil Society Meet, Documentary Film Festival and Children’s
Biodiversity Conclave.

We cordially invite to submit the abstract and register for the Second
Indian Biodiversity Congress at the earliest. The brochure of IBC is
attached herewith for your kind perusal. Please visit our website *
