Dear all


We are looking for 2 motivated candidates for the Project Associate/Junior
Project Fellow positions at Prof. Uma Ramakrishnan's lab at National Centre
for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Bangalore to assist in the following
projects from November 2022.

*Project #1*: Tiger connectivity in NE India: The project is aimed at
testing the genetic connectivity between tiger populations of four
protected areas of Assam using genome-wide SNP data and landscape genetics
analyses.

*Project #2*: Spatio-temporal variation in animal diet: This project aims
at understanding the variation in the diet of 3 species of herbivores and
carnivores each in Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve, Maharashtra, using the
metabarcoding approach.

*Responsibilities of the candidate:* The candidates will be required to
assist in the fieldwork to collect non-invasive samples, perform DNA
extraction and generate DNA sequence data from the collected samples. There
is a great opportunity to learn and perform population genetics analysis
using NGS data.

*Essential Qualifications and requirements:* Master's degree in any stream
of biology. Knowledge and experience of basic molecular biology laboratory
techniques such as DNA isolation from biological samples are required.
Experience of fieldwork in forest areas is desired but not mandatory.

*The duration of the position:* The position will be offered initially for
a period of six months, starting on 15th November 2022, with a possible
extension to one year based on the performance of the candidate.

*Benefits to the applicants:* Exposure to the excellent research
environment, opportunity to learn laboratory and computational methods used
in population and conservation genomics from experts in conservation
genomics, ecological sciences, and wildlife biology. Apart from working on
the specific project, interested candidates can also engage in other
research projects conducted in the lab. Based on the performance candidates
will also be part of the publications resulting from the projects.

*Remuneration:* The candidates will receive a stipend for the Project
Associate/Junior project fellow position as provided by the Government of
India – National agencies for a period of six months.
