*CALL FOR APPLICATIONS*

The US National Academy of Sciences, in collaboration with the Academy of
Sciences Malaysia, will convene international experts, mid-career and young
investigators to the *Regional Conference to Promote Safe and Secure
Science in the Middle East, South and Southeast Asia*, in Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia between February 5-9, 2018.

The goal of the conference is to expose the conference participants to the
norms and standards that foster and promote excellence in life science
research in an era of interconnectedness, cooperation, and rapid
technological advances. The conference will feature a selection of
biological science topics of interest in the regions, including One-Health
research, next generation diagnostics, surveillance, genome editing, and
emerging infectious diseases, all viewed through the lens of responsible
science, ethics, research integrity, and public engagement. In order to
facilitate cross-discipline dialogue and transnational collaboration,
biomedical and social scientists will be encouraged to convey their
experiences, lessons learned, and research vision through plenary lectures,
interactive panel discussions, breakout sessions, and poster presentations.

*The Academy of Sciences Malaysia and the US National Academy of Sciences,
Engineering, and Medicine are therefore pleased to invite you to submit
your application by Tuesday December 5, 2017 to actively participate in
this regional conference. Once all applications have been collected, a
committee of experts will review and competitively **select up to 100
nominees** to receive a travel award to participate in this conference.*

Note that you must meet all of the following eligibility criteria to be
considered for this travel award:
·         Be an *early to mid-career* professionals;
·         Able to present (orally or poster) at the conference that will
take place from February 5 - 9, 2018 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and
·         Currently work in a research institution based in Algeria,
Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Morocco,
Pakistan or Tunisia.

Upon acceptance, the selected nominees will receive a travel award to
offset registration and all travel expenses associated with attending this
scientific conference.

*Please submit your nomination(s) no later than **Tuesday December 5, 2017** to
be considered for this Travel Award.*
