Malvan

Dear YETI Team,

Could you please share the following email with the YETI mailing list?
--------------------------

This project is a part of my PhD work at the Centre for Ecological
Sciences, Indian Institute of Science. It aims to understand the ecology
and bycatch risk of elasmobranchs (sharks and rays) in fisheries. Fieldwork
will primarily be at Malvan, Maharashtra, and would involve a) sampling
catches from fishing vessels b) speaking to fishers about fishing efforts.

I am looking for volunteers interested in working on, and conserving sharks
and rays. The project volunteering duration is from the 15th of February to
the 15th of May, 2023. Field sampling would require 3-4 hrs a day for 5-6
days a week in early mornings and late evenings. Applicants will gain
experience in identifying elasmobranch species and understanding their
research/conservation importance and challenges in India while experiencing
a peaceful life on the beach. A commitment of at least 2-3 weeks would be
expected, and applicants from Maharashtra would be preferred. Recent
graduates seeking field experience are encouraged to apply.

Kindly note that this is an UNPAID position, but all field costs, including
travel to and from Malvan (bus/AC3 tier fare) will be covered and basic,
shared accommodation will be provided. Interested candidates can apply by
filling out the following Google form.

Best wishes,
Imran Samad,
PhD Student,
Prof Kartik Shanker's Lab,
