Open Position: Expert - Counter Wildlife Trafficking

Location: Bangalore, India

Reports to: Country Director

Duration: one year

Work experience: minimum 12 years of work experience relevant to Nature
conservation, Species conservation and documentation, biodiversity
management, project implementation, building teams.

non-governmental organizations to deal with conservation challenges such as
human-wildlife interaction, voluntary relocation of people from protected
forest areas, combating wildlife trafficking, conservation of endangered

About the project: WCS-India has initiated a project called Counter
Wildlife Trafficking (CWT), which seeks to build capacity amongst law
enforcement agencies and the judiciary to combat wildlife trafficking in
India. The project aims to improve India’s detection and enforcement
agencies’ capacity to investigate, arrest, prosecute, convict and sentence
criminal organizations that perpetrate wildlife trafficking. To this end,
WCS-India will conduct capacity building workshops for various stakeholders
involved in investigation, enforcement and prosecution including the Forest
Department, Police, Customs officials, Directorate of Enforcement, public
prosecutors, judiciary etc.

Required Qualification, Skills & Abilities:
1. Master’s degree in Wildlife Science/Wildlife Biology preferably having
experience or education background in wildlife law. PhD degree in wildlife
sciences or an allied subject will be preferable.

2. In-depth knowledge of conservation and wildlife trade protection act,
policies, procedures and documentation.

3. Excellent skills in program management, planning and implementation.

4. Excellent in coaching and directing teams/large teams, planning, time
management, problem solving and organizational abilities.

5. Ability to plan and organize a substantial workload that includes
complex, diverse tasks and responsibilities

6. Problem solving, decision making and delegation & team building skills

7. Excellent interpersonal and leadership ability to guide/supervise and
motivate the team effectively.

8. Experience in communicating program objectives, facilitating
workshops/training.

9. Willingness to travel frequently at the project locations.

Job Responsibilities:
1. Develop strategies, design, planning, analysis, and publication of
illegal wildlife trade-related research

2. Facilitating capacity building training and workshops to combat wildlife
trafficking including coordination, report preparation.

3. Development of monitoring & evaluation protocols, content development,
any other material related to illegal wildlife trade etc.

4. Lead responsibility for integration of new technologies e g. i2
software, phone apps etc. for research and monitoring of illegal wildlife
trade activities.

5. Lead the preparation of proposals, compilation of reports, letters,
other supporting material associated with anti-illegal wildlife trade work
of the organization.

6. Ensuring the technical quality and timely delivery and completion of
activities as per the project timelines & deliverables with in the approved
budget.

7. Lead responsibility in implementation of action plans and strategies on
biodiversity and species conservation.

8. Liasioning with forest officers, enforcement agencies, custom officials
etc.

9. Any other work related to ongoing/future projects related to illegal
wildlife trade, based upon mutual interest.

10. Any other task assigned by the Country Director.

Compensation: Offered as per the qualification and experience.
