*FIELD ASSISTANT OPPORTUNITY IN THE SEA TURTLE PROJECT, WWF-INDIA*
The Ocean & Coast Programme of WWF-India aims at conserving India’s marine
and coastal biodiversity and manage its resources to enhance ecosystem
resilience as well as ensure sustainable livelihoods. Broadly, all our
projects revolve around sustainable fisheries management, sustainable
coastal development and addressing threats to the globally significant
marine species and their habitats.
‘Disentangling Sea Turtles’ is WWF-India’s initiative, along the coast of
India, that aims to mitigate threats from marine debris, like, ghost nets
and commercial fisheries to threatened species, like sea turtles, dolphins,
etc. through long term monitoring programme and community engagement.
We are looking for *two Field Assistants* to support the WWF team with
implementing the activities in the field.
*Location:* The person will have to be based out at Visakhapatnam and will
need to frequently travel to field sites in other districts along the coast
of Andhra Pradesh.
*This position shall provide opportunities:*
· To work closely with the marine team of WWF-India and the
relevant government departments
· To get hands on training on data collection and data processing
· To get trained to design and conduct community surveys,
experience working closely with fisher community
· To get trained on turtle monitoring protocols and learn on their
biology and behavior
· To get trained on drafting reports, proposals and scientific
paper
*Specific position responsibilies:*
· Visits to the fishing harbor and fish markets
· Conducting field surveys, workshops and training
· Data collection &analysis
· Extensive field travel and networking involved
*Qualification Requirements:*
· Bachelors/Masters degree with an interest in marine
biology/environmental sciences and wildlife conservation projects.
Candidates with a Social Sciences background are also encouraged to apply.
· The candidate must have good analytical and writing skill in
English.
· It is mandatory for the candidates to speak, read, write and
understand Telugu for ease of communication with local communities in
Andhra.
· Willingness to travel to field sites and adjust with basic food
and accommodation
· Candidates who can commit to a long-term position (over 6 months)
will be given preference.
· Having a valid driving license for 2 or 4-wheeler. Those with
access to two- wheeler to travel in the field would be an added bonus.
*Duration of the position:* Minimum of 6 months
*A basic internship stipend shall be provided and all field expenses will
be covered under the project cost. Ideally candidates living in and around
Visakhapatnam will be preferred. He/She will be spending a lot of their
time travelling to coastal villages, visiting and interacting with
fishermen community and post work will have access to beautiful serene
beaches! (if any around). *
