Dear all, The Research Media Services Division of Gubbi Labs is happy to call for interns interested in writing science stories ( http://iisc.researchmedia.center/internships). Work will entail taking on technical scientific material and communicating it to a popular audience. This can include 1) reading academic papers and writing about them in simple language 2) visiting labs and interacting with scientists, and communicating their research in simple language. *We are happy to have interns writing in Kannada too!* We want to pay interns for their communication efforts. *After an initial trial period where the intern is expected to write a minimum of 3 stories, deliver them on time and to our satisfaction, we will consider paying the interns.* Payment would be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Interns will have their names appear along with their pieces on the IISc Science Media Cent er website (http://iisc.researchmedia.center/). This is a lot more visibility (and money) than media/journalism based internships around the world! *Qualifications: *Basic understanding of at least one branch of science, ability to read and understand academic papers, ability to work to a deadline, good command of English. People who can write about science in their vernacular language are welcome to apply. Those interested in communicating science using different mediums: infographics, posters, multimedia like audio and video, are all welcome to apply. Those interested please apply here: http://goo.gl/forms/PGK0mg1ETv. Please attach your CV and email to editor@researchmedia.center after you submit the form. *FAQ**s:* 1) Do I have to be based at your office? No, you can work from anywhere. We have an office on IISc campus but we are a virtual body. 2) How many pieces am I expected to prepare every week? We are flexible. You can write as and when you have the time. We encourage you to aim for 2 releases per month at a minimum. 3) What is the duration of the internship? We ask you to try it out for a minimum of 3 months. 4) What types of science news output are you planning? Short press releases, news stories, short snippets, lab based stories, short videos, photo slideshows with audio, podcasts, posters, infographics... we are here to explore. *About us:* Research Media Services is a division under Gubbi Labs, a research collective. It was launched by a group of 3 IISc alumni and has been steadily growing since; it has been in operation for more than 5 months now. Over this period, our flagship venture -- the Science Media Center at IISc -- has successfully engaged with the Institute and the media, sending out about 100 press releases about current research and facilitating more than 180 appearances about IISc research in the news media. We plan to extend our services to other institutes, so there will be plenty of work for all the interns we will have!
