Hi folks,

The Neighbourhood Trees Campaign concluded earlier this week. There was
good participation all around. It convinces us that crowd source and
citizen science is a good way to build an open access biodiversity
information system for India.

Forwarded is an infographics on campaign. TreesIndia and the India
Biodiversity Portal continues to be open for participation and
crowdsourcing on all biodiversity of India.

You are welcome to use it for campaigns and crowd sourcing of specific
information.

Neighbourhood Trees Campaign

*Photograph, map, and share a story about trees*

We would like to thank each of you for your participation and
contribution during the campaign. Your ethusiastic participation has
convinced us that crowd-sourcing is an effective way to aggregate
biodiversity data from different locales. The contribution of experts in
identifying species has reinforced the value of citizen science in
accumulating and organizing biodiversity data.

Data Contribution

Thank you for the overwhelming response to the Neighborhood Trees Campaign.
Over the 7 days of the campaign there has been high levels of user
registrations and data upload with the total number of observations
exceeding 2000.
------------------------------

Coverage of Uploads

Observations came in mostly from urban areas with cities such as Bangalore
and Panjim accounting for the bulk of observations. Other areas where
partner institutions and several individiuals organized local
tree-walks<http://indiabiodiversityportal.createsend1.com/t/t-l-ykbak-hrzvdt-s/>around
the country, also saw good activity.
------------------------------

Top 10 species observed

About 680 species of trees were uploaded during the campaign of which
the top 10 species are shown above. The species uploaded contained a good
mix of both native species as well as exotics. Of the top 25 species 68%
were native tree species. A full list of species can be seen
here<http://indiabiodiversityportal.createsend1.com/t/t-l-ykbak-hrzvdt-g/>
.

*images used are for illustration only and are are not representative of
the species.
------------------------------

Participation

Percentage of registered users who uploaded observations
------------------------------

Percentage of registered users who provided species IDs

Out of the 584 total users signed up on TreesIndia group, 127 users
uploaded one or more observations while 114 participated in suggesting
species IDs.
------------------------------

Species Identification

While most users uploaded observations with a species ID, some experts
actively participated in exclusively suggesting IDs. Less than 20% of the
total observations were unidentified and IDs are still being updated.

User Feedback

Competition results will be announced as soon as the judges have voted on
the results and will be announced
here<http://indiabiodiversityportal.createsend1.com/t/t-l-ykbak-hrzvdt-w/>
.

We would love to get some feedback on what you thought of the campaign.
Please spend a few minutes to fill in this
survey<http://indiabiodiversityportal.createsend1.com/t/t-l-ykbak-hrzvdt-yd/>so
that we can improve.

TreesIndia will continue to accept tree observations to meet its
objective of aggregating information on the distribution of tree species.
Do continue contributing observations to
TreesIndia<http://indiabiodiversityportal.createsend1.com/t/t-l-ykbak-hrzvdt-yh/>to
help build an open-access biodiversity information system for trees of
India.

Best Regards,
