Dear YETI community,


We are looking for a motivated and capable researcher to join our project
titled ‘Linking plant functional traits to ecosystem services across
tropical forest communities in the Western Ghats’. The selected candidate
will be based at National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Bangalore,
and will frequently travel with our team to field sites in the Western
Ghats and elsewhere in peninsular India to sample tree species composition
and functional traits.



The basic requirement of applicants is that they be willing to undertake
fieldwork over extended periods in sometimes challenging conditions. In
addition, any prior experience with botany, field-identification of trees
and standard methodologies for systematic sampling of vegetation and
functional traits will be considered favourably. Interest and experience
with research design, data collection and analysis will also benefit
potential candidates, and the selected candidate will be encouraged to
develop and implement independent research work alongside her/his assigned
duties.



Interested candidates should submit an application comprising the following

1. A one-page cover letter detailing the applicant’s motivation to apply
for this post.

2. A curriculum vitae, which should contain information on the applicant’s
academic background and qualifications, relevant research experience and
publications.

3. A list of two professional referees, along with their affiliations and
email address.


We will begin to review applications on 15th May 2014. The position will be
open until a suitable candidate is selected. Short-listed candidates will
subsequently be contacted for an interview.



The initial contract will be for six months, and renewable for up to two
years, following review. Remuneration will be consistent with pay-scales
prescribed by the Government of India and NCBS based on the qualifications
and suitability of the candidate, and not exceed the Senior Research Fellow
(SRF) pay-scale bracket.
