The selected candidate will be based at National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Bangalore, and will frequently travel with our team to field sites in the Western Ghats and elsewhere in peninsular India to sample tree species composition and functional traits. The basic requirement of applicants is that they be willing to undertake fieldwork over extended periods in sometimes challenging conditions. In addition, any prior experience with botany, field-identification of trees and standard methodologies for systematic sampling of vegetation and functional traits will be considered favourably. Interest and experience with research design, data collection and analysis will also benefit potential candidates, and the selected candidate will be encouraged to develop and implement independent research work alongside her/his assigned duties.
