Hi NCF's Eastern Himalaya program is looking for a volunteer to work with us in Arunachal Pradesh in April- July 2014. We are currently working on a project that looks at food resource distribution of hornbills (which are the largest fruit-eating birds in this landscape). Our work is based in Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh, and parts of it is also carried out in adjoining Pakke Wildlife sanctuary (where our main base camp is) in the East Kameng district. Part of this work is mainly focused on the Rufous- necked hornbill, a globally endangered species. *At Eaglenest*, we camp mostly inside the forest using tents and other basic amenities. Phone network is restricted and there is no internet access. There is no electricity, but there are solar lamps. A typical work day involves 6-7 hours of work through undulating terrain that is typical of Arunachal. The base-camp *at Pakke* has electricity and phone network, but access to internet is intermittent. A part of the work also involves recording feeding behaviour of hornbills. For this, we will be conducting feeding trials on captive hornbills in zoos. Field work will also involve walking transects, fruit tree watches and phenology monitoring. *Terms of work* 1. Travel fare (up to 3rd AC trainfare) for one-way travel to Guwahati will be provided to reach the field station. All travel costs for internal transit within northeast (related to the project) will be covered. 2. Food and accommodation will be provided at the field station. 3. A moderate level of fitness is expected, given the tough terrain of work. 4. We would like the participant to join us in field latest by the end of March 2014 or by 1st week of April (preferably by 24th/25th of March).
