Hi all,

I am looking for a field technician to help with a bird banding and sample
collecting project in the sky islands of Western Ghats. The study is to
understand genetic connectivity of birds across the Western Ghats. Visit
www.skyisland.in for an overall idea of the project and
http://skyisland.in/Evolution.html for more project details (including
older field pictures).

Skills you will get exposed to are - putting up mist-nets, extracting and
banding birds, taking various morphometric measurements, sampling bird
ecto-parasites and collecting genetic samples.

Please include names of two referees and their contact numbers. Salary will
be commiserate with experience and we will close applications as soon as
the right candidate is found.

Our field work is currently on and will go on until May 2013 (5 months)
with short breaks.

The only required skill is ability to walk (up mountains / long distances
:10-15km) and a very active interest in birds/natural history (to keep you
going the long distance). Not all our field sites are tough, three out of
6-7 sites we work at are remote areas and field work will include tough
day-long climbs (1000+m) to reach the field site. On such remote mountain
tops we stay in tents (no bathrooms or toilets). We try and alternate a
tough location with an easy one.

Let us know if you know bird banding, driving a four wheeler or conversing
in Tamil/Malayalam.

Those interested should write to me (robinvijayan@xxxxxxxxx) with your cv.
Those who applied in the last 3-4 months need not apply again.

Thanks

Robin
