This sounds a bit like when O'Rielly complained that ISPs might behave in
non-neutral ways, blocking the kind of rabid talk he favors. After insisting on
allowing just that non-neutral behavior.
The Wheeler FCC had forbidden automatic dialing of random or sequential
numbers. This FCC couldn't understand how that works. Instead, they want to
implement a system that merely verifies that the source is who they say they
are.
Wake up, you crooks. People signed up to the do-not-call list by the multiple
millions, practically overnight. Not because they want their caller ID to be
truthful, but because they want to be rid of unsolicted calls, day and night.
Now, the Chairman puts on a big show of how pissed he is, that the telephone
services aren't doing enough. After gutting what was the easiest way to achieve
this.
