I thought about how this compares with our Philips units. The Channel Master is only a HDD recording device. It doesn't burn DVDs. The Philips units instead can be used to create edited DVDs. To some people, that's what they need. And it appears that there's no clearQAM or cable frequencies. So you can't use it on cable at all. Also the Channel Master doesn't have video inputs, it seems. You can only use it to record OTA signals, not stuff from other sources you have at home. For me, though, I could mate it with a BluRay player, and replace the Philips with boxes that provide HD recordings and HD movies. Still, I got a new appreciation for our Philips units after searching out the specs.
