No Bert. A small handful or rural companies supported continuing Title II
regulation. You can always find a few yahoos to support any position, as you
FREQUENTLY point out.
There were many more comments from rural broadband companies who related the
high cost and useless effort they had to expend to comply with the Title II
order. This was clearly explained in Carr’s speech.
But this point out a fundamental flaw in your arguments. If the FCC really
wanted to entrench 3 or 4 companies to create another regulated oligopoly, they
would stick with the playbook they have used for nearly a century...
OH WAIT! That is EXACTLY what the Wheeler FCC did with the Title II order, with
a little twist...
You guys get your ISP monopoly, and everyone gets to keep playing the game with
lawyers, lobbyists, and political contributions. But you cannot compete in the
Internet Edge Provider business, and we will use the Title II order to regulate
your relationship with these new unregulated monopolies.
There have to be at least a few Republicans who are not either employed by
the 3 or 4 megacompanies, or on the take from those, or so freakin' stupid
that they can't think beyond simplistic slogans. Monopolies do not
self-regulate properly.
I love it.
The broadband industry is growing and there are multiple competitors. Now that
the Title II order has been rescinded we are going to see more competitors, not
to mention municipalities getting in on the action.
But the Edge Provider monopolies clearly ARE NOT self regulating properly. They
are ACTUALLY DOING exactly what the Wheeler Net Neutrality rules were created
to prevent.
Or to put it a slightly different way, Yahoos like you, John Oliver and several
Governors are screaming that the ISPs are going to break the rules, while the
edge providers are actually breaking them.
This should not be a partisan issue. Monopolies *are* what we are dealing
with here, and regulations have little to do with this reality. Even
Commissioner Carr seems to have some clue, when he goes on to explain about
the realities of 5G:
The whole point of Carr’s speech was focused on helping smaller companies
compete and enabling real competition. Knocking down the many layers of
regulation at the Federal, State and local level that significantly increase
the cost of new infrastructure of ALL KINDS, is critical to our future. Time is
money. Regulation is time, kickback and unnecessary expense.
Thinking beyond your mindless slogans, the problem you have described is why
there is inadequate competition for fixed broadband, or really, any type of
broadband that scales to very high capacities.
That is NOT the problem he described. The problem is all of the regulatory
leaches that are trying to extract their pounds of flesh from the companies
trying to create a competitive infrastructure.
The small companies have already told you that the cost of conforming to
Title II is not the problem.
FAKE NEWS>
It would be even less of a problem if this FCC were not so corrupt as to undo
all neutrality guarantees, wholesale, as opposed to just some of the
provisions of Title II. The main issue here is ROI. Regs are a side issue.
They did not undo all neutrality guarantees.
They simply turned to a system that was WORKING.
No, Commissioner. You are merely parroting the lies spouted by the Chairman.
No one has demonstrated what you claim to be fact. On the contrary,
investment kept going up, and the neutrality guarantees were wildly popular
among the very vast majority. And yes, broadband *is* a utility service, in
the minds of the vast majority of consumers, just as telephone service has
been. No one but the Chairman thinks that Internet service is like cable TV
service. So, that's all that SHOULD matter to the FCC.
This is all that matters to YOU Bert. It is meaningless crap. The sky is not
falling.
Deregulation turned a sclerotic telco monopoly into a robust wireless industry
that has spent more than a trillion dollars creating a highly competitive
wireless communications industry...without the “help” of the FCC.
Stupidity will be duly rewarded by November. Trump should weigh in here and
put an end to this level of corruption by his appointee. Needless to say,
this has become a big issue. As was utterly predictable.
If trump weighs in, it will be to take Pai for doing his job.
Let’s see how things play out over the next 9 months. Given the real news that
is dribbling out daily, this may be one of the most difficult years in U.S.
history.
The blocking and throttling of information coming from the DOJ and FBI make the
Net Neutrality story look kinda insignificant...

Craig
