Yesterday, there was a big story related to OpenDTV that may have slipped by due to the events in Boston. Dish Networks tendered as $25.5 billion offer for Sprint/Nextel. In a nutshell, the plan is to offer a competitive bundle of TV and wireless services under a single subscription (and individual plans as well). This would place Dish in a more competitive position with AT&T and Verizon, which now bundle Satellite TV services and offer their own TV/broadband services in select markets. IMHO, this is a strong indication of where the TV business is headed, as we have discussed many times on OpenDTV. If you read my response to the article Monty posted about the TV networks moving from OTA to exclusive subscription carriage you may already have a good idea about what is happening here. THe following article does a better job than most I have read, describing exactly what Dish plans to do. http://www.zdnet.com/dish-and-sprint-can-they-really-deliver-on-a-unicast-vision-7000014032/ The graphics are the key to this article, so please just click through.
