I would think that Motorola (San Diego) would be a shoe-in for this
category. The DSR-6050 paved the way and the DSR-6100 (ESPN)
is installed in pretty much every head-end in the country.

The ESPN MPEG-4 upgrade undoubtedly enhanced their picture
quality, so I'd say it "materially affected television".

Of course, I'm a little biased since I worked very closely with
Motorola on both of these transcoder/IRD boxes.
