Despite the wrong headed attempt to reimpose the heavy handed Title II Net
Neutrality rules, I fully support Congressional action. At least the attempt to
pass this bill will provide a forum for public debate by the people who have
the responsibility to resolve this issue for once and for all.
Okay, you're getting it. Even though congressional action should still not
have been necessary.
PAY ATTENTION BERT!
The only way to resolve this issue is via legislation, although the debate now
involves far more than ISP neutrality. Without legislation the rules can be
changed by any future FCC. Congress is the correct place to have this debate
and to develop a permanent solution to the many issues that have surfaced with
respect to the neutrality of the Internet.
Truth is, that the ISP issues addressed by the Title II Net Neutrality order
are minor nits, compared to the major abuses that have been exposed in the past
two years with NON-NEUTRAL edge service monopolies.
Simply putting the Title II Net Neutrality rules into legislation just
exacerbates the problems, and opens the door for the politicians and the FCC to
regulate the Internet moving forward.
Fortunately, it is unlikely that this version of Net Neutrality can pass both
chambers and get the President’s signature. But the debate will be very healthy.
