Please include me on your auto delete file. Wilkie and Manfredi have been on mine for more than a year. They waste space on my inbox and time in reading drivel. Granted they have some valid arguments but I leave it to others to comment on them and I do read THOSE postings. I am a 'lurker' on this list which I consider a debate on technical issues and valued as such. Then there are 'whiners' who want to suppress debate. On the other hand there are 'whiners' like Lou Dobbs (CNN) who want more debate on issues to the point of being overly repetitious. There is room to debate 8VSB as there should have been when the U.S. went to war in Iraq. To oppose it one would have been branded as being unpatriotic. You are telling us that opposing a flawed DTV modulation standard that is the law of the land is naive and a waste of time. I suppose George Washington was naive in opposing British Colonial rule and taxation without representation. What you have now is an unwelcomed tax burden on future generations and a flawed 8VSB enmeshed in a coupon rebate program fiasco and (likely) delayed transition. The status quo should not be a 'given' in instances such as this. At the heart of the 8VSB debate is the 'spoils' system that has been a feature of the U.S. political scene since its beginnings (Rod Blagojevich is an outstanding recent example among many others). The FCC and ATSC has not distinguished itself in a positive way in dealing with workable broadcast standards. While their actions do not match the Bernie Madoff scandal they contain similar elements of incompetence, fraud and deception. Some of us ARE dealing with it by debate and commentary. Those who are truly naive are the ones who believe that change is not possible or even in some instances, an imperative. Failure is an agent of change and like the war in Afghanistan 8VSB is likely to fail unless change allows for a society to reinvent itself. Unless change happens, the worst is yet to come contrary to what you may think. Suppression of dissent is a feature of totalitarian societies and unworthy of your own. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Richard C. Could people please stop complaining, and just deal with it. At this point thinking that it could change is naive at best. I won't say what at worst is.
