I haven't seen the PERFECT VISION article, but rather than simply throwing
darts at OTA STB's,
based on many, many posts on avsforum and elsewhere, it is more accurate to say
that products from particular manufacturers have had a LOT more HDMI
incompatibility problems than others.
This includes, but is certainly not limited to, Samsung HDTVs and Scientific
Atlanta CATV STBs.
Prior to the Sept firmware upgrade (PASSPORT ECHO 2.5.022), my SA8300HD and
Hitachi PDP would operate without any problems except one.
The Hitachi commands the SA8300HD to go ON-LINE okay, but when it commands it
to go OFF-LINE,
the SA8300HD starts a constant chatter of relays which will eventually result
in a spontaneous REBOOT.

After the Oct firmware upgrade (PASSPORT ECHO 2.5.027) which was supposed to
fix a frequent lockup problem,
the go ON-LINE/OFF-LINE function was disabled (solving the above problem),
but now the HDMI interface is more finicky and will refuse to establish the
HDCP connection from time to time.
Others are also experiencing similiar new problems with HDMI.

On the other hand, the new firmware release for SA3250HD CATV STB greatly
improved the
reliability of the IEEE-1394 FIREWIRE start-up protocol to my JVC D-VHS Hi-Def
Recorder.
It takes longer to re-try a couple times, but it seems to connect nearly every
time now.

TWC-SD and COX-SD official party line is that although HDMI is in many of their
HD-STBs and HD-PVR,
they don't "support" HDMI......gee, not too hard to figure out why not....

PVR's HDMI output will not work correctly with
my Toshiba TV's DVI/HDCP input. All the diagnostic screens of the 8300HD
make is seem that there's a recognized and valid connection, and that HDCP
is negotiated and locked, yet there's still no image. I have a DVD player
with DVI/HDCP output, and that works just fine with the TV.
